Fibr for industrial Floors

Glass-fibre reinforcement for a 2,100 m² industrial concrete floor: lightweight, fast to install, strong and corrosion-free.

Glass-fibre reinforcement mesh installed for an industrial concrete floor

This 2,100 m² project was executed using glass-fibre reinforcement for the concrete floor. In this project, Ø8 mm glass fibre was used to replace Ø10 mm steel reinforcement.

According to the contractor, the main practical advantage was the speed of installation. The difference in weight plays an important role: four glass-fibre meshes weigh approximately the same as one traditional steel mesh. As a result, one person can easily lift, move and position a mesh without requiring several workers or heavy lifting equipment.

Across a surface of 2,100 m², this results in faster installation and less physical strain for the installers. The lightweight meshes are easier to distribute across the site and quicker to position. This advantage becomes particularly significant on large floor areas, where the time savings accumulate over hundreds or thousands of square metres.

Despite its smaller diameter, Ø8 mm glass fibre has a significantly higher tensile strength per mm² than Ø10 mm conventional reinforcing steel. In the right application, a smaller and much lighter glass-fibre bar can therefore perform the required reinforcement function.

Glass fibre is also corrosion-free, so the reinforcement cannot rust or cause corrosion-related damage to the concrete. The combination of high tensile strength, low weight, fast installation and durability makes glass-fibre reinforcement particularly attractive for large concrete floors and projects where installation speed is important.
